Episode 2.14
“Rush”
Rush was a fun episode. As most of the red kryptonite and the like usually are. After a rave in the Kawache Caves, Pete is infected with a parasite that made him lose absolutely all inhibitions.
At the same party Chloe’s geeky lab partner Travis also gets infected…so much so that he stage dives from the top of a scaffolding killing him.
The next day Pete runs into Clark…almost literally when he drives his motorcycle on the sidewalk. Clark questions him, but Pete just seems high on life and suggests Clark lose his inhibitions as well.
It inspires Clark to ask Lana out on a real date and she accepts the surprise invitation. Clark is excited. Lana at first hides it from Chloe, but eventually spills the fact to her roomate who tries to act as if she doesn’t care but isn’t very successful.
Meanwhile in the caves, Lex shows up while Clark is there and questions him on why the caves are so important to him. Clark talks about a term paper and drops the name of a noted linguist. Lex picks up on the name and gets in touch with the doctor, hoping he’ll drop everything and research the caves.
This causes consternation with Clark as Dr. Walden does not want Clark to have access ot the caves which Lex accepts at first.
Meanwhile Clark uses his x-ray vision on Pete to discover the parasite in his body and Clark tries to get Pete to go to the hosptial but Pete refuses, eventually going so far as to unleash kryptonite on Clark to get him to leave him alone.
Now why Clark didn’t just knock Pete out and bring him to the hospital, I have no idea.
Clark and Chloe go to the caves and when Dr. Walden interferes Chloe gets infected with the parasite as well and she tells Walden off calling him a cunning linguist. She starts losing her inhibitions and making out with random boys in the Torch office.
Clark has to break his date with Lana, but can’t tell her exactly why. He just claims Pete is in bad shape, when Pete and Chloe show up together. Lana thinks that Clark lied to her and is upset. But before Clark can do anything Pete slips a red kryptonite rock into Clark’s pocket, and Clark’s bad ass alter ego comes out to play.
Clark confesses everything to Chloe showing her and the three decide to drive off to do some damage but first Clark lays into Lex and telling him off. Lex is upset but warns Clark not to go to far.
Clark and Chloe make out in the car and at the Talon until Clark removes his shirt which has the red kryptonite in it. Returning to his senses he is shocked when Chloe tries to kiss him as Lana walks in. Again Clark tries to explain but can’t tell so many things that Lana just leaves.
Clark goes after Pete and Chloe but once Pete realizes the red rock is gone he knocks Clark out with a green kryptonite rock.
Clark saves the two as they drive off a cliff together. Clark catches the car and is able to get them to a hospital where both are saved and neither remember a thing.
Meanwhile Lex relents and forces the doctor to let Clark into the caves, but with some ulterior motive as he feels Clark knows more about the Caves than he is letting on.
Clark tries to go back to Lana with a rose to apologize but because he can’t explain everything without giving away his secrets, Lana doesn’t accept it and moves on.
Overall another fun episode with some movement in the Clana story although you know it’s not over which lessens the impact of it and of course the usual mindwipe happens which protects Clark’s secret. But ultimately a good watch.
