“Heat”
202 desiree lex 300x168 Episode 2.02

Heat is a great example of combining both a FotW with a development for Clark. In this case the development involves a new power. Heat Vision. While Clark and the rest of the student body adjust to returning to school after the tornado and amidst a heat wave, we are quickly introduced to the new science teacher, Desiree Atkins who turns quite a few of the boys heads.

In fact Clark gets so worked up that his head flashes and quickly fire shoots out of his eyes and ignites the screen the ancient sex ed film is being shown on.

We quickly get a surprise and learn that the hottie teacher is also engaged to be married to Lex Luthor. Something seems fishy to Clark, but everyone else seems to not think it all that strange.

Lana spends her days trying to get people to contribute to a video card she plans on sending to Whitney but struggles to decide what she is going to say.

After Lex marries Desiree it quickly begins going downhill as we learn that that Desiree can control men with her pheromones. She controlled Lex into everything including marriage and now she wants to control Clark to kill Lex, but Clark proves invulnerable to her advances.

Meanwhile Clark flares out again, this time while with Lana and starts the Talon on fire. It’s no mistake and this time Clark realizes what exactly is going on. When he gets hot…he gets hot. But learning this lets him figure out a way to control it and that comes in handy after Desiree frames Clark for burning her car down.

Clark uses his heat vision to set an alarm off at the police station and head of his father who became the next victim of Desiree. Jonathan is set to kill Lex, but Clark saves the day, by using his heat vision to melt the bullet.

Ok that was just lame to be honest, and simply not logical. It was obviously only put there because it was Clark’s new power. Why wouldn’t he just do his usual run and catch the bullet routine?

Overall it’s a filler episode, but one that is well crafted so SV approves.

Desiree is very Poison Ivy like -a Batman villain in the comics.
