Episode 1.16
“Stray”
In a series that had relied on FotWs so much, it was very interesting to see that yet again it was absent. This week even went so far as to have a person who had abilities who didn’t draw them from the meteor rocks.
Ryan James was a kid who could read people’s minds. A great ability, but unfortunately his stepparents use him to further their criminal activities until he runs away. After getting hit by Martha Kent, Ryan is taken in. He pretends he as amnesia and hopes to be able to make it in a foster home.
Clark really appreciates having a younger brother type around, although he begins to freak people out with the way he can read people’s minds.
Eventually his stepparents track him back down and take him back, but after Chloe provides Clark with a photo of Ryan’s stepfather, Clark is able to save Ryan after the stepfather kills his stepmother and a local janitor.
In a subplot, Lionel offers Lex a job back in Metropolis underneath him. Lex deliberates as it was always something he wanted, but he feels connected to Smallville and at the end of the day refuses Lionel’s offer.
As Ryan is leaving, he tells Clark to be careful of Lex, that there is a lot of darkness inside of him.
Overall, another decent episode in a strong line of episodes.
